Tibet Motorcycle Adventure Tour

Welcome to Nepal! Upon arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), a Pinkstone Travel representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. You'll have the rest of the day to relax and settle in. In the evening, we’ll hold a trip briefing to go over the itinerary and what to expect. This is also when we'll collect your passports for the crucial visa processing. Afterward, we'll enjoy a welcome dinner, a great opportunity to get to know your fellow riders. 

Today is dedicated to exploring the rich culture of Kathmandu. Our guided tour will take us to the massive Boudhanath Stupa, one of the oldest Buddhist monuments in Nepal. We'll then visit Pashupatinath Temple, the most sacred Hindu temple in the world, located on the banks of the Bagmati River. Our final stop is Kathmandu Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage site filled with ancient temples and palaces.

Today is a warm-up for the main ride. We'll start by riding to Sankhu, an ancient Newari town, before making our way to the hilltop of Nagarkot. Here, we'll take in the spectacular panoramic views of the Himalayas, including Mt. Everest and other towering peaks. From there, we'll descend to the historic city of Bhaktapur, known as the "City of Devotees," where we'll have lunch and explore its magnificent architecture before heading back to Kathmandu.

The official journey begins. We'll navigate out of Kathmandu, following a winding and narrow forested road to Kakani, where we’ll take a short break to enjoy the mountain views. We'll then descend to Trishuli, a great spot for lunch. Afterward, we’ll continue north, riding through beautiful scenery to Timure. Be prepared for multiple police and military checkpoints along the way as we get closer to the border. 

After breakfast, it's a short ride to the Nepal-Tibet border. We’ll complete all Nepali and Chinese immigration formalities. Once in Tibet, you'll be met by your Tibetan guide and support team. After a smooth Chinese Customs clearance for the motorcycles, we'll load our gear into a support vehicle and ride for another 24 kilometers to Kyirong Town. The rest of the day is free for you to explore the town and begin acclimatizing to the higher altitude.

Today is an incredible day of riding. We’ll head east, crossing the high-altitude Guntung La Pass (5200m). You’ll be treated to a scenic ride across the vast Tibetan plateau, passing the famous Paikut Tso lake and observing nomads with their herds of yaks and sheep. We'll descend to the settlement of Tingri, a former trading post with stunning mountain views.

After breakfast, we'll continue our ride to Shigatse. The route is scenic and relatively smooth. We will cross the Gyatso La Pass (5228m), the highest point on this stretch, which is marked by an array of prayer flags. Upon arrival in Shigatse, we'll check into our hotel for the night.

Today we'll handle the official paperwork for riding in Tibet, including obtaining our temporary licenses and completing biometric registration. Afterward, we'll visit the magnificent Tashilhunpo Monastery, the seat of the Panchen Lama. In the afternoon, we’ll begin our scenic ride along the Brahmaputra River to Lhasa, the spiritual heart of Tibet.

Get ready to be awestruck. Our morning tour will take us to the magnificent Potala Palace, the former winter residence of the Dalai Lamas. This architectural wonder is a spectacular edifice with gold roofs that soar high above the city. In the afternoon, we'll ride to Ganden Monastery, the first Gelugpa Monastery, for a spiritual visit, and then to Sera Monastery to witness the famous monks’ debates.

Today we’ll immerse ourselves in the spiritual heart of Lhasa. We’ll visit Jokhang Temple, which houses Tibet's most precious religious relic. Surrounding the temple is the bustling Barkhor Street, a popular pilgrimage circuit and marketplace where we can shop for traditional Tibetan goods. In the afternoon, we'll visit Norbulingka, the summer residence of the Dalai Lama, a beautiful park filled with gardens and palaces.

We'll follow the Friendship Highway, riding past Khamba La Pass where we’ll take a break to appreciate majestic views of Yamdrok-Tso Lake, a beautiful deep blue lake. We’ll also cross the Korola Pass before arriving at Gyantse, a traditional Tibetan town.

In the morning, we'll visit the Gyantse Kumbum, a magnificent multi-story stupa with 112 chapels. We'll then ride towards Shegar, taking a short detour to the historic Sakya Monastery if time permits. The ride today is a beautiful one through the picturesque Tibetan countryside. We will again cross Gyatso La Pass on our way to Shegar, and weather permitting, we may get our first glimpse of Mt. Everest. 

Today is the day we ride to the base of Mt. Everest. From Shegar, we'll ride about 50km to the army checkpost at Tashi Dzom. From there, we'll board a mandatory electric bus for the 45km drive to Rongbuk Monastery. The bus will take us through stunning scenery, and as we approach, the magnificent sight of Mt. Everest will appear before us. We’ll visit Rongbuk Monastery, the highest monastery in the world, and take in the awe-inspiring view of Mt. Everest.

After breakfast, we'll take the electric bus back to our bikes at Tashi Dzom. We’ll then begin our ride back towards Kyirong. We'll ride across the high Tibetan plateau, with views of Cho Oyu and Shishapangma, and pass by the beautiful Pelkhu Tso lake. We will cross the Guntung La pass before finally descending to Kyirong.

This is our final day of riding. After an early breakfast, we'll ride down to the Nepal-Tibet border. We’ll bid farewell to our Tibetan guide and support team before completing Chinese immigration formalities. We’ll then ride across the friendship bridge and into Nepal, completing all Nepali immigration. The ride back to Kathmandu is scenic, marking the end of our incredible adventure.

After breakfast, you'll have some free time for any last-minute souvenir shopping. A representative will then transfer you to Tribhuvan International Airport for your onward flight home.
